What makes auto parts store software different?
A parts shop has many small items, many numbers per item and customers who describe the same part in different ways. Generic retail software searches by name and barcode, which is not how mechanics ask. RMS is auto parts store software that searches the way your counter works: by OEM number, by your own part number, by an alternate number, or by the car it goes on.
Each product can hold its rack location. The suggestions under the item box show the rack while you type, and the printed pick list sorts every part on a bill by rack, so a new helper can collect an order without asking where things are.
How does search by make, model and year help?
When a part is entered, list the vehicles it fits by make, model and year. Then:
- Products → Fits shows every part for a Civic 2018 or a Corolla 2015;
- at the counter, choose the customer’s vehicle and tick Only parts for this vehicle to narrow the list;
- the parts by vehicle report shows what sells for which cars, so you stock the right things.
What about boxes, drums and loose lengths?
Parts rarely arrive the way they are sold. Spark plugs and bulbs come in boxes, oil and coolant in drums or gallon cans, and fuel hose on a reel. Give each product its units and conversions, such as 1 box = 10 pieces or 1 drum = 208 L. Buy in the large unit, sell in the small one, and stock stays right, even for quantities like 1.5 m of hose or 3.5 L of oil.
How are suppliers and workshop credit handled?
Most parts shops buy on credit from wholesalers and sell on credit to workshops. RMS keeps both sides.
With Pro, purchase orders can be placed, received in parts and closed, and buying on credit adds to the supplier’s ledger. Pay suppliers from their ledger, and return faulty parts with a printed debit note. The reorder list shows everything at or below its reorder point by usual supplier and can fill a purchase order in one click.
On the selling side, each workshop has a credit limit and an account statement. Receivables show who owes the most and, on Pro, how old the dues are.
